Direct Cast From The Original Roman Statue
This is truly one of the great, classic statues. It evokes timeless beauty in the idyllic form of one of Rome’s great men, Marcellus. A nude male statue, it was cast directly from the original scaled Roman statue of ca. 50 B.C. by the sculptor Kleomenes. It was incorrectly identified as Germanicus, a member of the family of the Emperor Augustus, but is probably a portrait of a member of a wealthy family of the late Republic. Here, it is represented with a body copied from a well-known statue of the god Hermes (Mercury), the Orator, which stood in Athens.

A notable addition to a classic garden or home gallery, this nude male sculpture is executed in the classic sizing style popular in the 1st century B.C.. Then, sculptors like Kleomenes looked for inspiration to the masters of the 5th and 4th centuries in Greece. Exclusively from Design Toscano, this impressive estate statue evokes the fine sculptures seen in Europe.
